The CCDT Board
Member Directors
Our eight Member Directors are elected at the Annual General Meeting each May.
Currently they are:
Hilary Gunkel: Has lived in Callander for 24 years, running a guest house for 8 seasons, and then a garden tour business for 17 years. She has organised village garden openings for charity and her particular remit on the CCDT Board is the Greening of Callander. This involves improving the visual aspect of the town with hanging baskets, tubs and flowerbeds.
Frank Park: Has a background in the development, marketing and implementation of computer software systems. He and his family own the Lade Inn and its associated Real Ale Shop. He is passionate about the environment and keen to develop projects for the benefit of Callander businesses and community.
Jenny Newton: Has lived in Callander for 21 years, and ran her own local business selling specialist confectionery. Now retired, Jenny has some time to offer help with CCDT projects to develop Callander facilities for its residents and visitors. She is a member of the recently formed Tulipan Residents Association.
Susan O'Boyle: Has lived in Callander for 6 years, being persuaded by her Scottish husband to come to his homeland as a specialist teacher of maths. Susan enjoys living here and is interested in anything that fosters community pride and ownership.
John Snodin: Is much involved with local wildlife and environmental issues. He is a member of several local organisations - Rambling Club, the Heritage Society, Woodland Link and Callander and Climate Change - all of which have concerns relevant to CCDT. For the last five years he has been actively trying to develop Little Leny Meadows as a flower nature reserve with Plantlife Scotland.
Carron Tobin: Was until recently an executive director with the National Park and now runs her own business in Callander, having moved here to live. She is passionate about sustainable tourism.
Olive Walker: Believes that voluntary participation in the activities of Callander sustains one’s interest in the town which in turn helps to create a vibrant community. Olive has volunteered in many capacities during her residence in Callander.
There is currently one vacancy for a Member Director.
Associate Directors
Our seven Appointed Directors are nominated by community organisations to represent them on the CCDT Board.
Currently they are:
Kay Battye: (Callander & District Heritage Society) Is interested in the historic development of Callander with particular relevance to its pre-Victorian architecture. She is highly critical of the present plans of the National Park to expand the built environment unsuitably into open areas and to make Callander into what is termed 'the capital of the Trossachs' .
George Johnson(Callander Enterprise): Owns and runs a number of local shops. Has recently become Chairman of the local business association, Callander Enterprise and is a member of the Callander Community Council. He takes a keen interest in local affairs, believing that you should put something back into the place where you live and work.
Richard Johnson: (Woodland Link) Has lived in the area for almost 30 years where he has based his environmental consultancy, Mountain Environments. He is also Chairman of Callander Community Council, a Director of the National Park Community Partnership representing the Trossachs area, and an executive member of the Association of Community Councils. His main interest is in the natural environment, developing woodland walks around Callander, and he also chairs the Town Plan development group.
Liz Kliskey: (Callander Primary School Parent Council) Has lived in Callander for 6 years and has a background in connection with the construction industry. Her main interest is helping the primary school develop a wildlife and vegetable garden so that the children receive practical outdoor and environmental skills. Recently, Liz re-formed the local Cub pack which she leads.
Dan McKirgan: (Callander Community Council) Is a local hotelier who has been involved in many community activities over the years, including Round Table, Rotary, Callander Amateur Operatic Society and Callander Community Council.
