Callander Old Primary School
A project to explore the feasibility of acquiring and converting Callander’s outgoing Primary School building into a Community, Arts, Education and Training Centre.
The Arts Centre would incorporate a full working theatre that would be used to present local theatre and other local performers, professional entertainers and talks. The Education and Training Centre would provide a dedicated space for a wide range of creative and learning activities for all ages. These would include trades required locally such as rural skills, forestry, agriculture, land management and climate development, as well as vocational courses in technical theatre skills such as set design, wardrobe, lighting & sound, hair & make up etc.
Community Enterprise and Studio SJM Architects were commissioned in late 2025 to to conduct an independent review of the proposal to evaluate community support, risk and financial viability with a 5 year business plan. See here for the full brief.
As part of the feasibility review, we want to know the community’s views on the concept. This will include:
An initial survey to gauge support for the vision (August/September 2025) - see results below
A follow-up questionnaire for more ideas (January-March 2026)
A public drop-in event at the Primary School building (February 2026)
Interviews with 15 stakeholder organisations locally (February 2026)
Following the feasibility report, there will then be several further stages of design and development, with further opportunity for public feedback. For information on what’s involved with each stage of this type of project, see our Future Ideas page.
